Join us at Romni Wools for the Saturday and Sunday workshops. Let’s discover enjoyment in the simpler things in life. Whether you want to explore some traditional favourites like learning to knit or learning to crochet, or venture into new territory like pattern drafting or fair-isle knitting, you will find that our hands-on classes provide a great opportunity to have some fun while getting involved in a relaxing and rejuvenating activity. So come and enjoy the company of friends as we welcome you to romni wools and a whole new world of needle art.
Finishing 1
Learn the techniques necessary for finishing a handknit garment. Emphasis is on shaping, assembling, edgings and borders, picking up stitches, darning and weaving in ends and blocking. Participants are encourages to bring in their knitting works-in-progress and any questions that they many have pertaining to finishing. There are two dates being offered:

Finishing 2 (Beyond Basics.)
Learn how to improve your handknitting techniques-even if you are an experianced knitter who has knitted for years. Come join Julia and let her show you how you can Master techniques such as: Japanese shortrows, provisional cast-on and The magic loop. Participants must have Finishing 1 or permission from the instructor(Julia.) before attending this class.

Continental Knitting - the Hat Project
Learn to knit the Continental way using a circular needle. Instructions will be given on how to cast on, how to hold the yarn and how to knit and purl while creating a child size hat in the round..

Beginner Crochet
Come discover the timeless and every popular art of crocheting. Learn how to read a pattern and work on a simple granny7 square and a slipper in class. A perfect opportunity to get involved with a creative, fast, fun and easy activity. There are three dates available

Beginner Knitting

Pattern Drafting
Date: Saturday May 15th. 2004

Time 12pm to 4pm
Fee: $45 Come discover quick, Easy, professional methods for creating customized knitting patterns for todays most popular garments. Learn how to properly measure the body, Design the physical pattern and calculate how much yarn to buy. Emphasis is on contour and fit of the knitted garment. Tips, tricks and techniques for enhancing a knitted design will also be discussed.

Prerequisite: An understanding of Continental Knitting, and working in the round with circular needles.
The Basic 4 - Needle Sock
This course will focus on basic sock construction. Participants will gain an understanding of how to turn a heel and shape a toe. Emphasis will be on the fit and style of sock knitting using various traditional techniques. Students will be required to work on the cuff of the sock prior to coming to class.

Simply Scarves
Enjoy an afternoon class with Cyndi learning how to create your own scarves. Students will find this class to be altogether fun, fast, simple and challenging. Perfect for all skill levels and a great last minute gift-idea. Instructions will be given in the areas of selvages, borders, fringes, how many stitches to cast-on, how much yarn to buy and textures that one could use in their knitted pieces. There are two dates to choose from.

Two-Needle Mohair Mittens
We all know that a pair of mohair mittens are beautiful, warm and cozy. But do you know they can also be fast and easy to make. Come join Marilyn and let her show you how you can make a pair of mohair mittens on a pair of straight needles, in just one afternoon. These mittens are so much fun! You will want to make a dozen or more just in time for the holidays!.

The Four Needle Hat
The 4-Needle Hat is a great first shaped project after all those scarves! Learn to make a classic hat style in vertualy any size and yarn. Techniques explained include freestanding I-cord, invisible increasing and I-cord castoff. Universal patterns and materials are provided.

4 - Needle Mittens
Come try your hand at knitting a simple classic mitten on 4 needles. Find out how to pick-up stitches for a thumb and decrease for a top while working in the round. The skills and techniques acquired in this class will enable students to learn the basics and prepare them to move on to more challenging patterns. Students will be required to work on the cuff of the mitten prior to coming to class.

Beaded Knitting
Ever so popular and fun! Learn how to make a pair of garder stitch beaded wristlets. There will be several different patterns and colours to choose from. Students will learn to follow charted patterns, how to do three needle bind-off, and how to create and chart their own bead patterns.

Colour Theory and Practice
This two day comprehensive course while oriented towards textile artists (knitters, weavers, tapestry artists, etc) will be very useful to anyone wishing to demystify colour and learn how it can be used to control the visual qualities of your work and the terminology involved in these ideas. Participants will learn how to create subtlety and sophistication, power and drama, how to make a colour glow, how to make a busy design appear simpler and bolder, how to make elements blend in or stand out, etc. Participants should bring a notebook, pen and gluestick. (Paints and brushes will be provided)

Knitting in the Round
Enjoy an afternoon with Norma as she teaches you how to knit in the round with circular kneedles. Students will learn how to create a stylish tubular scarf or skirt using two pairs of circular kneedles. Students will learn such skills as how to decrease in the round, as well as introduce new yarn colour in the round. This class is suitable for ALL skill levels.
